What I check during a pump-out

Before pumping, I check whether the liquid is at its normal operating level. A high level can point to a backup or restricted flow. I also look at the scum, liquid effluent, and sludge layers and check the condition of accessible lids, risers, the inlet, outlet, and distribution box. If your system has an aerator, I check whether it’s running. I’ll explain what I find and let you know if anything needs follow-up.

I clean and replace effluent filters as a separate visit or during a pump-out. My Six-Month Septic Maintenance Program includes routine filter cleaning, aerator motor and pump maintenance as applicable, and sludge-level tracking to help determine when pumping is due.
